At ÊÓƵ¶µã (WestMAC) we believe that music education encourages creative thinking, self-expression and promotes an awareness of the world’s cultures, which is why we offer a broad and varied music program that inspires students to strive for excellence in all of their musical endeavours.
Our classroom music program commences in Prep and continues through to Year 12. It includes a String Immersion program in Year 3 and a Band Immersion program in Years 5 and 6. ÊÓƵ¶µãs participate in music through class, concerts held for the College community, outside performances, various eisteddfodau, camps, tours and performance opportunities as they arise. Involvement in music is a lifelong learning experience and students are encouraged to participate with enthusiasm and commitment in all aspects of music education on offer at the College: classroom music, private tuition and extra-curricular involvement.
WestMAC offers students many extra-curricular music experiences including choirs, orchestras, bands and chamber ensembles. These groups are organised to provide opportunities for all students, regardless of their level of ability. Extensive instrumental and vocal tuition is also offered to the students and is facilitated by a staff of highly talented and dedicated musicians.
Music, like the other arts, is an integral part of our way of life. As music pervades the students’ everyday lives, music is a very relevant part of their education. Music at WestMAC develops skills in the perception and practice of music in its many forms. It also fosters social interaction and develops concentration, memory, physical co-ordination and self-discipline.
